AlterEgo is the artistic project created by Alessandro Piano, exploring identity, inner life and the many dimensions that coexist within each human being.

The AlterEgo figures are sculpted representations of different parts of ourselves: fragments of memory, emotions, experiences and identities that coexist and evolve over time. Each figure is a silent presence carrying its own story — a kind of mask that, rather than concealing, reveals, becoming a means of dialogue with ourselves and with our personal past. For those who encounter them, the AlterEgo figures become emotional mirrors: spaces for recognition and identification that invite us to reflect on universal questions surrounding existence, relationships and human vulnerability.

AlterEgo Poloz

AlterEgo Poloz was born from the collaboration between Alessandro Piano and Claudio Ghiglione, bringing together the artistic vision of the AlterEgo project and Claudio’s experience in exploration and polar environments. It represents the first of what could become a series of AlterEgo adventures around the world: a new dimension in which the artwork is no longer confined to an exhibition space, but becomes a presence capable of travelling, experiencing the world and becoming part of real stories.

For its first journey, AlterEgo Poloz travelled to one of the most remote and symbolic places on Earth: the South Pole. The journey was made possible through the collaboration between Alessandro’s artistic vision and Claudio’s experience in polar exploration, bringing the AlterEgo into the context of a genuine expedition to Antarctica. The journey therefore carries a meaning that goes far beyond geography. The AlterEgo leaves the protected environment of the studio and encounters one of the most remote, pristine and powerful places on the planet. The Antarctic landscape becomes part of its story, while the expedition itself becomes a new chapter in the narrative of the artwork.

The experience becomes even more significant because it took place aboard the non-icebreaking vessel that reached the southernmost point ever reached by a ship, earning a Guinness World Record. In an environment where the concept of limits takes on a very tangible meaning, AlterEgo Poloz becomes a silent witness to an extraordinary encounter between art, exploration, adventure and the human experience. The journey to the South Pole therefore represents the first step in a collaboration aimed at taking AlterEgo **beyond traditional exhibition spaces**, transforming the figures into protagonists of real experiences and new narratives.
